Kia ora

Welcome to the  Maungatapu School website.

Our school has a proud tradition of providing quality education for children since it was established a little over 129 years ago. Originally, Maungatapu School was a native school and was located in a Church of England Mission chapel at a site in Te Hono Street. Since those early years of providing education to the local children of Maungatapu, the school has grown into a well established and resourced decile 5 primary school with 23 classrooms operating in 2012.

Maungatapu School is a friendly school where a sense of humour, respectful behaviour and the use of manners and care for each other, are highly valued aspects of the school’s culture.

Our pupils are encouraged to give everything their best shot and are known for their “can do” attitude and their willingness to accept and carry out duties and responsibilities.

The school has a strong association with the local community and the tangata whenua. The school has a total immersion whanau unit where the curriculum is delivered in te reo Maori, and maintains close links with two local marae - Hairini and Maungatapu.

I trust that your association with our school will be a long and happy one and that you will find the following information helpful. If you have any queries, please phone the office: 5440858.
