Welcome to Maungatapu Primary School

Maungatapu Primary School is a school with a proud heritage and a rich and colourful history. Established as a native school in 1881 and originally sited in Te Hono Street, near where the Anglican Church now stands. Maungatapu School is a decile 5 school, with a roll ranging from 450 to 525 students. There are 26 classrooms with 23 classrooms making up Auraki – the mainstream part of the school where teaching and learning is based on the New Zealand Curriculum. The school offers parents the opportunity to have children immersed within a Maori language learning environment. The Puwhaariki Rumaki has 4 classrooms where teaching and learning is presented in Te Reo Maori to students from new entrants to Year 6.
