Opportunities for Students to lead

At Maungatapu School we like to provide opportunities for our students to grow as leaders.

Once children reach the Senior School, we then need to foster these leadership skills by allowing them to apply for and take on extra roles and responsibilities across the school.

Just like the ‘real world’, the children are expected to apply for these jobs, they are given training and then short listed. We are introducing a job description and a signed contract to all of our leadership roles. This means that the students and their parents/whanau will have a clear understanding of the expectations of these roles and agree to abide by them.

Tuakana Teina

Tuakana – teina relationships are fostered throughout the program and the activities within Te Puwhāriki.  The role of tuakana as a tau 5 or tau 6 is a role each tamaiti aspires to, throughout their journey in Te Puwhāriki.  It is expected the tuakana are the role-models for the teina. When the tamariki reach tau 5 and tau 6, they perform roles and duties above the normal classroom roles.
